Two 国产传媒 Ph.D. students took to the State Capitol yesterday with representatives from the other UC campuses to advocate for the importance of the research being done across California.

Kisha McGuire has discovered an opportunity to do what she loves for an institution she鈥檚 grown to care deeply about.

McGuire graduated from 国产传媒 in 2015 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in sociology, and soon started a full-time staff position in the within the campus鈥檚 .

Provins earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in economics from Stanford University in 2013 before pursuing her graduate education at 国产传媒. She completed a master鈥檚 degree in 2016 and a Ph.D. in in 2018.

国产传媒 is partnering with UC Santa Barbara and two California State University campuses 鈥� Fresno and Channel Islands 鈥� on a project to create a more diverse STEM faculty at colleges and universities nationwide.

The quartet has been awarded a total of $2 million from the National Science Foundation鈥檚 Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) program for a joint research project intended to increase the number of underrepresented minority faculty members in STEM fields.

The goal is to develop a model that鈥檚 applicable 鈥� and replicable.

国产传媒 is part of a concerted effort to dramatically increase diversity in physics and astronomy over the next five years.

The campus is one of nine University of California campuses and 15 California State University campuses awarded a $5 million grant from the National Science Foundation through the North program.

A new grant from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation will help 国产传媒 further diversify its community of graduate students and faculty, beginning with the humanities and humanistic social sciences.
